Megamix 2010 - 2high Festival
As part of the 2high Festival in 2010 Brisbane, Australia, Leo Pacquelet, Robbie O'Brien and I were chosen to be the Megamix team. We got the opportunity to generate a new collaborative project together that was featured in the festival. Leo and I decided to row 6.2 nautical miles in the Brisbane River which cuts through the heart of the city. Due to Robbie's grandmother's birthday he couldn't physically be with us, so we made a scarecrow of him and he joined us in the boat for the trip. For us rowing down the river explored the physical potential of each individual to travel in the natural environment. We considered this voyage as a challenge to the process of traveling through a city; as public transport is made to be quick and easy with minimum effort, however ours was physical and naturally resourceful, experiencing the city in an entirely different manner. For the night of the festival the boat and scarecrow were installed at the entrance. Robbie performed interactively with festival goers via a mobile phone tied to the scarecrow's hand. He asked people for secrets and told them stories.
